MANIKGANJ, June 24, 2020 (BSS) – Sesame cultivation has exceeded the target this year as its harvesting will end soon in all seven upazilas of the district.

Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said the cultivation of sesame has exceeded the target this year as the farmers have been getting good yield and reasonable prices of their products compare to past few years.

They said they had fixed a target of sesame cultivation on 3887 hectares of land in the district with a production target of 4275.7 tonnes. But sesame was cultivated on 4004 hectares of land in all seven upazilas of the district.

DAE deputy director Md. Shahjahan Ali Biswas said the land of the district is suitable for sesame cultivation and the cultivators are getting reasonable prices of their produces. So the cultivation of sesame is increasing day by day in the district.
