17 mango-malta orchards to set up in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR, June 20, 2020 (BSS)- Horticulture Department, a wing of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken up a project for setting up 17 fruit orchards exclusively for mango and malta in the district this year.

According to Horticulture office sources, the orchards of mango and Malta will be developed as part of the project titled “Fruit Production And Nutrition Development Round the Year’.

The aim of the project is to meet the demand of nutrition of the people by increasing fruit production.

Each orchard will be set up on 1.5 acres of land. An aspirant farmer who wants to turn his farmland into an orchard will get 75 mango and 75 Malta saplings each free of cost .

Deputy Director, Horticulture Department , Nitai Chandra Banik said after final selection of the farmers, the orchard will be set up in all the seven Upazilas of the district.

The project for setting up the orchards began in 2015 and is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
