1st phase of DNCC’s combing operation ends

DHAKA, June 15, 2020 (BSS) – In order to protect the city dwellers from dengue, the first phase of special clean-up operation to control Aedes mosquito launched in all 54 wards of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) ended today.

On the last day of the first phase, a total of 13,368 houses, installations, under construction buildings were inspected and Aedes mosquito larvae were found in 1601 of them. The DNCC also found 9,035 houses and installations to have a suitable environment for Aedes mosquito breeding, said a press release issued here today.

A total of 4 lakh 49 thousand taka was fined in 19 cases filed by the mobile court after finding Aedes mosquito larvae in the said establishments today. Owners of other homes and installations have been warned about the unhealthy environment and the presence of Aedes larvae.

Each DNCC ward was divided into 10 sectors and each sector was divided into 10 sub-sectors. A team consisting of 4 cleaners and 1 mosquito exterminator worked in each sub-sector every day.

During the operation, nine entomologists from the Health Department, three entomologists from the DNCC, officials from the Health Department and Waste Management Department worked directly, added the release.

In the last 10 days from June 6 to till date, a total of 1 lakh 34 thousand 135 houses, installations, buildings under construction in 54 wards of DNCC were inspected, and about 1.2 percent of them were detected to have Aedes larvae.

Pesticide was sprayed in places in the breeding environment and the public were instructed to be vigilant in this regard.

“We plan to conduct the second phase of the combing operation next month. I hope you will still be by our side, ” Atiqul said thanking the city dwellers, added the release.

Finding lack of awareness of the city dwellers in this regard, the DNCC authorities have warned that if anyone is later convicted of the same crime, there could be more severe punishment, even imprisonment.
