Mexico beat South Korea 2-1 in World Cup

DHAKA, June 23, 2018 (BSS) – Mexico marched on to the next round in a grand style as they registered their second successive victory against South Korea by 2-1 goal in their second group F match of the FIFA World Cup held on Saturday at Rostov Arena, Rostov-on-Don, Russia.

After a slow start Mexico shot into lead in the 26th minutes when Guardado’s cross saw Korean central back Yang in a bid to clear, commits a handball and referee had no hesitation to point his finger to the dreaded spot. Vela step forward and made no mistake to covert the penalty into goal (1-0).

Mexico’s Javier Hernandez scored his 50th goal for his country and his Mexico’s second for the evening. He latched on to Lozano pass and showed his brilliant skill to outwit the Korean defender Jang to tuck the ball past the goalkeeper inside the near post (2-0).

Son scored the consolation goal in the injury time for Korea in 93rd minutes of play with a stunning shot (2-1)

This victory saw Mexico improved their tally in the points table with six points from two matches while South Korea languished at the bottom of the table without a points playing the same number of outings.

Mexico will play their next group next match Sweden while South Korea will play against Germany on June 27.

Earlier in their previous fixture,

Mexico beat Germany by 1-0 goal while South Korea suffered a 0-1 goal defeat at the hand of Sweden in both their respective group opening matches.
