SANGSAD BHABAN, June 23, 2018 (BSS) – Industries Minister Amir
Hossain Amu today said Awami League (AL) was founded 70 years
back aimed at facilitating wellbeing of the common people in
Highlighting the glorious history of Awami League, founded
June 23 in 1949 at the historic Rose Garden in Old Dhaka, he
paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman who was not only a founder of the Awami League,
the country’s oldest political party but also lead the nation
to its independence.
Amu said when Awami League came to power, the arrangement for
food, shelter, education and healthcare services was made and
the socioeconomic condition of the rural people was improved.
He said the Father of the Nation struggled his whole life to
ensure overall development of the people and fulfill their
basic rights, adding, “Bangabandhu gave us an independent
country and a separate identity in the world community.”
Taking part in the budget discussion on the historic June 23,
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said Bangabandhu was the only
leader who resigned from the post of a minister to reorganize
his party and he announced six point demands which was
ultimately one point demand for independence.
He said Bangabandhu within three and a half years of
independence established all necessary institutions suitable
for an independent country and constructed infrastructure
along with rebuilding the war-ravaged country.
“Only Bangabandhu was able to return back the allied force
from Bangladesh to India within three months of independence.
And his able daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been
taking forward the country on development of highways,” Tofail

made in all sectors including economy, social and cultural
fields under dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh
Referring country’s growth rate, the Minister said the growth
rate of Bangladesh already has jumped to 7.6 per cent from 5.1
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Hoque said Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina is leading Awami League for 37 years
out of its 69th founding anniversary.
He said the proposed budget has a reflection of development
and would pave a way for building a middle-income country by
2021 and a developed country by 2041.
Mozammel said the proposed budget has been placed for
realizing the vision 2021 and building a developed country by
2041 announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said,
adding Bangladesh already has graduated lower middle income

took part in the general discussions on the national budget.
On June 7, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith placed a
Taka 4,645.73 billion national budget for 2018-19 fiscal
setting the GDP growth target at 7.8 percent and detailing a
set of programmes to transform the country into a role model
of modern and welfare state by 2041.
Earlier, the lawmakers paid rich tributes to Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his
family members who were assassinated on August 15, 1975 and
all martyred during the War of Liberation in 1971.
