AL celebrates 69th founding anniversary

DHAKA, June 23, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League and its front organizations today

celebrated the party’s 69th founding anniversary through different programmes in the

city as elsewhere in the country.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the programme

by hoisting the national and party flags and releasing pigeons and balloons in front

of Bangabandhu Bhaban on Dhanmondi Road no-32 in the city in the morning.

Marking the day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid deep homage to Father of the

Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at the portrait of the

great leader in front of Bangabandhu Bhaban.

After laying the wreath, the prime minister stood in solemn silence for some time

as a mark of respect to the memory of the Father of the Nation.

Later, Sheikh Hasina, also the president of Bangladesh Awami League, placed

another wreath at Bangabandhu’s portrait as the party chief.

Senior leaders of the party including Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu,

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Housing

and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Awami League Presidium Member

Advocate Sahara Khatun and Road Transport and Bridges Minister and General Secretary

of the party Obaidul Quader were present on the occasion.

Joint General Secretaries Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif and Advocate Jahangir Kabir Nanak,

Organising Secretaries Ahmad Hossain and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Publicity and

Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap,

Cultural Affairs Secretary Asim Kumar Ukil, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary

Sujit Ray Nandi and Labour and Manpower Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj,

Forest and Environment Affairs Secretary Delwar Hossain along with other central

leaders of the party were also present.

Later, AL city North and South units, Awami Jubo League, Awami Swechchasebak

League, Jatiya Sramik League, Mohila Awami League, Jubo Mohila League, Chhatra

League, Tanti League and different political, social, cultural and professional

organisations paid deep respect to Bangabandhu by placing wreaths at the portrait of

Father of the Nation.

Later in the morning, AL President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated

the newly constructed head office building of Bangladesh Awami League in city’s

Bangabandhu Avenue at Gulistan, coinciding with the 69th founding anniversary of the

party.

Sheikh Hasina unveiled the plaque of the 10-storey building at 23 Bangabandhu

Avenue amid a number of ceremonies.

The ceremonies included hoisting of the national flag by the prime minister and

party flag by party’s general secretary Obaidul Kader and playing the national

anthem.

The prime minister released pigeons and balloons and planted a sapling in front

of the building. A munajat was offered on the occasion.

Later, the prime minister accompanied by central leaders of the party visited

different rooms of the office building.

The building, constructed on 8 kathas of land with modern facilities, will have

offices for the party president, general secretary, presidium members, joint general

secretaries and associate organisations.

A mural of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is on the upper

side of the building. Murals of Liberation War and surrender of Pakistani troops at

the historic Suhrawardy Udyan have also been set at the building.

The party was first formed as Awami Muslim League at the historic Rose Garden in

Old Dhaka City in 1949 and then renamed as Awami League.
