INTERPOL’s help to be taken to nab human traffickers: CID DIG Imtiaz
DHAKA, June 04, 2020 (BSS) – Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the
Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Police Imtiaz Ahmed today
said if needed help of International Criminal Police Organisation
commonly known as INTERPOL would be taken to nab the fugitive human
traffickers staying abroad in connection with the killings of 26
Bangladeshi migrants in Libya.
“If needed, a red alert would be issued through INTERPOL to nab
fugitive human traffickers who are staying abroad. To nab the human
traffickers, the CID is investigating the matter and conducting
drive,” he told a press briefing at the CID office here.
The investigation, he said, is being carried out to trace the money
and assets of all active human trafficking gangs. Besides, the
preparations are underway to file a money laundering case against
them, he added.
Replying to a query, Imtiaz Ahmed said: “Nine cases have been filed
with different police stations in connection with the killings of 26
Bangladeshis in Libya and several people have been arrested to this
end. However, most of the human traffickers are at large.”
According to the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and CID sources, two
alleged human traffickers were arrested over the recent killings of 26
innocent Bangladeshis in Libya from Musksudpur Upazila of Gopalganj
District in the country on June 3 last.
The arrestees were: Sentu Shikhdar and Nargis Akhter. A total of 15
persons were so far arrested in this regard, the sources added.
On May 28, human traffickers shot 30 people, including 26
Bangladeshis, dead in Mizdah, Libya and left 11 others injured in the
attack. All the victims were trafficked to the war-torn African state
en route to Europe.
