DSE keeps losing amid corona outbreak

DHAKA, June 4, 2020 (BSS) – Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed trading today continuing it’s nose-dive as the investors were in dilemma over the impact of ongoing COVID-19 outbreak.

At DSE, the broad index, DSEX settled at 3953.38 points on Thursday, the last working day of week, with a loss of 10.01 points or 0.25 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, Blue Chip index, DSE30 and Shariah index, DSES also went down by 7.01 points and 3.03 points to settle at 1321.49 points and 915.95 points respectively.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 10,269 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 16.74 millions securities.

Market turnover, another crucial indicator, stood at Taka 0.429 billion which is much lower than of previous day’s Taka 1.52 billion.

Loser took a lead over gainers as out of 309 issues traded, 11 securities gained price while 36 declined and 262 remained unchanged.

The market-cap of DSE also fell to Taka 3,099 billion, from Taka 3,103 billion in the previous session.

The top 10 gainers were Lindebd, Reliance Insurance, Exim Bank, BSCCL, National Tea, Phoenix Insurance, Bangladesh General Insurance, Pioneer Insurance and Grameenphone.

Beximco Pharma topped the turnover chart followed by Grameenphone, Central Pharma, Lindebd, Square Pharma, Indo-Bangla Pharma, Beximco Limited, BSCCL, ACME Laboratories and Rechkit Bexchizer.

The top 10 losers were Beximco Pharma, Shyampur Sugar, Meghna Petroleum, Uttara Bank, Central Pharma, ICB Islami Bank, Shinepukur Ceramics, Indo-Bangla Pharma, Desh Garment and Zeal Bangla Sugar Mill.

On the other hand, port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed trading at green overcoming the losing streak of previous day.

CSCX and CASPI went up by 4.00 points and 6.38 points to stand at 6808.23 points and 11237.58 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 3,183,757 shares and mutual fund of 103 companies were traded, of which 9 issues advanced while 19 declined and 75 issues remained unchanged.
