COVID-19 cases reach 1183 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, June 2, 2020 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients
rapidly climbed to 1,183 with 48 new positive cases reported during the last
24 hours till 8 am today in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the new 48 patients were found after testing of 376
collected samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur, Dinajpur of
Rangpur division on Monday.

Of them, 16 new infected patients of different places in Rangpur, Gaibandha
and Kurigram districts were reported on Monday after diagnosing 188 samples
at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 16 new patients include 13 of Rangpur, two of Gaibandha and one
Kurigram districts” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention
Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Lyzu told BSS
today.

Meanwhile, 32 new infected patients of Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Nilphamari
districts were reported today after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19
Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 32 new cases reported on Monday include 11 of Thakurgaon, four of
Dinajpur and 17 of Nilphamari districts,” said Principal of MARMC Professor
Dr. Shibesh Sarker.

Talking to BSS today, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director
(Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said a total of 412 COVID-19
have so far recovered among the total 1,183 infected people in Rangpur
division.

“The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 427 in Rangpur, 80 in
Panchagarh, 147 in Nilphamari, 44 in Lalmonirhat, 72 in Kurigram, 122 in
Thakurgaon, 231 in Dinajpur and 60 Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr.
Siddiqui added.

Meanwhile, the 412 recovered patients include 184 of Rangpur, 18 of
Panchagarh, 51 of Nilphamari, 23 of Lalmonirhat, 35 of Kurigram, 27 of
Thakurgaon, 52 of Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts,” he added.

With the two more deaths reported from Nilphamari on Monday, the total
number of fatalities rose to 19 including eight of Rangpur, three of
Gaibandha, four of Nilphamari, two of Panchagarh and one each of Dinajpur and
Thakurgaon districts.

“Currently, 201 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of the 15
dedicated corona isolation hospitals and 551 taking treatments at homes in
all eight districts of the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Talking to BSS today, Rangpur Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed
Khan said the average recovery rate of COVID-19 patients currently stands at
34.82 percent while fatality rate stands at 1.60 percent in Rangpur division.

Meanwhile, a total of 39,004 people were put in quarantine, and of them,
33,594 released so far and 5,410 are currently remaining in home or
institutional quarantine in Rangpur division.

“During the last 24 hours, 368 people were put in quarantine at home or
institutions and 399 others released amid rapidly deteriorating trend in the
COVID-19 situation in the division,” Dr. Khan said.
