Entire mosquito control activities will be rearranged: Taposh

DHAKA, June 1, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh today said the entire mosquito control activities from grassroots to higher level will be reorganized as approaching monsoon is the vulnerable period for mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya.

“All officials and employees should come forward to work with utmost sincerity and competence to provide best services to the citizens shunning the path of so-called eye-washing activities,” he told a meeting at the Nagar Bhaban here.

The mayor said the government has taken up different plans to control mosquitoes while no excuse or negligence in implementing of those plans will be accepted by any means.

“I am a mayor for 24/7. I will visit anytime anywhere to witness the corporation’s activities. Actions will be taken if anybody is found involved in negligence or any other misdeeds or wrongdoings. None whoever he or she is will be spared,” he added.

Mentioning the formation of a committee headed by DSCC Health Officer Dr Meer Mostafizur Rahman and comprising of regional executive officers, Taposh said the committee will adopt necessary activities and implement those and act on the basis of reports on activities at grassroots and take suggestions from ward councilors while the activities will begin from June 7 next.

He said cleanliness campaign will be carried out at lakes, canals and wetlands in the DSCC area from June 14 while drains will also be cleaned.

DSCC Chief Executive Officer Shah Md Imdadul Haque, Chief Health Brigadier General (Dr) Md Sharif Ahmed and Secretary Md Akramuzzaman were present, among others.
