Ex-national footballer Salahuddin Mondol passes away

NARAYANGANJ, May 31, 2020 (BSS)- Former national footballer SM Salahuddin Mondol died of a cardiac arrest at his residence in Gagangar area here this morning.

He was 59.

Salahuddin left behind his wife, two sons and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death, family sources said.

Salahuddin represented the national team and played in Dhaka First Division League for Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited, Dhaka Wanderers Club and Farashganj Sporting Club on different occasions.

Salahuddin was also a former president of Narayanganj District Football Association and Sonali Otit Club.

He was the president of Narayanganj Sadar upazila Awami Jubo League, the sources added.

Salahuddin was laid to eternal rest at Syedpur Graveyard here after Zohr prayers following a namaz-e-janaza at Tajek Prodhan Jame Mosque.

Salahuddin’s teammate and former national footballer Shahid Hossain Swapan paid tributes to the former national footballer and said that he started his career with Farashganj in 1983 before joining Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited.

“Salahuddin, who played several matches for the national team, was engaged in the sports till the last day of his life,” he recalled.

Swapan said the soccer in Narayanganj was progressing with teenage footballers thanks to Salahuddin’s sincere cooperation.

“The nation has lost a good footballer and sports organiser in his death,” he said

Narayanganj District Sports Association’s President Tanveer Ahmed Titu, Sonali Otit Club and Gagangar Krira Sangha expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of Salahuddin.
