Bangladesh emerge group champions in SAFF U-15 Football

DHAKA, Aug. 22, 2017 (BSS) – Title aspirants Bangladesh under-15 team emerged as group champions as they record an overwhelming 3-0 win over hapless Bhutan in their final group match in the SAFF U-15 Championship held on Tuesday at ANFA complex in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu.

Bangladesh led by a solitary goal when Mohammad Foysal Ahmad Fahim found the mark (1-0) in the 32nd minutes. In fact it was Foysal’s brilliant hattrick in their previous match against Sri Lanka which saw Bangladesh won comfortably.

Bangladesh kept their momentum in the second half too and it was Mohammad Miraj Mollah found the mark in the 52nd minutes of the proceeding to double the margin (2-0).

In the 81st minutes, Miraj Mollah again hogged the headlines as he sealed the fate of the match as he scored his second of the match and team‘s third goal (3-0).

The boys of red and green earlier confirmed their last four berth of the championship, courtesy of Bhutan’s 5-0 win against Sri Lanka.

A draw in the Bhutan-Sri Lanka match would have been enough to see Bangladesh through, but the Himalayan kingdom thrashed the islanders 5-0 to settle the two qualifying spots from the group.

Bangladesh had won their first group match against Sri Lanka 4-0.
