Rupsha power plant to produce 800MW in 2021: Nasrul

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 21, 2018 (BSS) – Sate Minister for Power, Energy and
Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid today expected that Rupsha 800 MW Combined
Cycle Power plant would commence its generation in June 2021.

“We have floated tender for construction of the power plant on 50 acres of
abandoned land of Khulna newsprint mill,” he said this, while replying to a
starred question from treasury bench member Sheikh Nurul Haque of Khulna-6 in
the Jatiya Sangsad.

The state minister said the power plant would be constructed under North-West
Power Generation Company with Asian Development Bank(ADB) and Islami
Development Bank(IDB) finance.

He said the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has
already approved the detail project proposal (DPP) of the plant on May 22,
2018.

“If the power plant is being implemented some 307 people would be employed and
power connections would be given to new industries in the areas, which would
help to poverty alleviation alongside improve socioeconomic condition,” Nasrul
informed the House.
