4th Int’l Day of Yoga held in city

DHAKA, June 21, 2018 (BSS)- Indian High Commission, Dhaka, today
celebrated the 4th International Day of Yoga (IDY) with around 10,000 people
practicing the ancient Indian discipline at Bangabandhu stadium here.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister
Obaidul Quader addressed the programme as the chief guest.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Biren Sikder addressed the function
as the guest of honour while Deputy Minister of the ministry Arif Khan Joy
was also present.

Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla delivered the welcome
remarks, said a press release.

The celebrations of IDY commenced with the screening of a video message
of Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sports associations, yoga associations and institutes, intellectually
challenged children, Bangladesh Scouts and the students from different
schools, colleges and universities in Dhaka and outside Dhaka participated in
the celebrations of IDY.

Several celebrities from cultural arena, sports and media also
participated in the event.

Mumpy Dey, teacher of Indian Culture at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre
(IGCC), conducted the common yoga protocol. Demonstration of yoga asanas were
also performed by yoga students of IGCC and other yoga institutes in Dhaka.

At the end of the event, a lucky draw was held.

Similar events were also organized by the Assistant High Commissions of
India in Rajshahi and Chattogram.
