until completion of the tenures of incumbent mayors.

Polls to the DSCC and DNCC were held on February 1 while ruling Awami
League-backed candidates- Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Atiqul
Islam-swept the elections as mayors of the DSCC and the DNCC respectively.

Taposh defeated Bangladesh Nationalist Party backed candidate Eng Ishraque

Moni, was an elected Member of Parliament in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad from
Dhaka-10 constituency.

He resigned from his MP post on December 29 last after he got nomination to
contest for mayoral post of the DSCC.
