Corona patients’ number climbs to 483 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, May 16, 2020 (BSS) – The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19)
patients sharply climbed to 483 as 79 new positive cases were reported during
the last 24 hours till 8 am today in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said the new 79 coronavirus patients were found after
testing a total of 880 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur,
Dinajpur and National Institute of Laboratory Medicine and Referral Centre
(NILMRC) in Dhaka on Friday.

“Of them, 31 patients were found after testing 188 samples at the COVID-19
Laboratory in Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur alone,” Focal Person
of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA
Siddiqui told BSS today.

“The district-wise break up of the COVID-19 patients stands at 212 in
Rangpur, 19 in Panchagarh, 62 in Nilphamari, 23 in Lalmonirhat, 42 in
Kurigram, 34 in Thakurgaon, 67 in Dinajpur and 24 Gaibandha districts in the
division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, a total of 110 coronavirus patents were released from different
Dedicated Corona Isolation Hospitals with discharge letters declaring them
“recovered” after their treatments in all eight districts of Rangpur division
till Friday.

“The 110 recovered patients include 31 of Rangpur, seven of Panchagarh, 15
of Nilphamari, two of Lalmonirhat, six of Kurigram, 15 of Thakurgaon, 12 of
Dinajpur and 22 of Gaibandha districts in the division,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

However, the total number of fatalities rose to six in Rangpur division as
more two deaths were reported from Rangpur during the last 24 hours till 8 am
today.

“Of them two people died each in Rangpur and Nilphamari while one each in
Dinajpur and Gaibandha districts,” he said.

Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amin Ahmed Khan said, among the total 483
coronavirus patients, 115 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of
different hospitals after release of 106 recovered patients.

Besides, six coronavirus patients died and 252 are undergoing treatments
remaining in isolation at homes in the division.

The coronavirus infected patients include physicians, nurses, brothers and
other staff of different government hospitals, health complexes and other
health providing facilities, policemen, Ansar members and common people.

Meanwhile, a total of 32,182 people were put in quarantine, and of them,
25,278 released so far and 6,904 are currently remaining in home or
institutional quarantine in Rangpur division.

“During the last 24 hours till 8 am today, a total of 456 people were put in
quarantine amid increasing trend in coronavirus infection at home or
institutions and 273 others released in the division,” Dr. Khan added.
