Spain edge past Iran 1-0 in World Cup football

DHAKA, June 21, 2018 (BSS) – Title aspirants Spain Kept their hopes alive when they overcame spirited Iran by -1-0 goal in the crucial Group B match held on the Thursday early hour at kazan Arena in Russia.

The result put Spain level at the top group on 4 points with Portugal -who beat Morocco earlier in the day, while Iran are a point behind them with behind in third position and could still make the knockout stages of the competition.

An entertaining game in Kazan and Spain probably deserve the victory -their first of the 2018 competition- with a deflected Diego Costa strike sealing the precious three points in 54th minutes of the play. D Costa scored two goals in 3-3 draw against Spain in their first previous fixture.

Iran thought they had levelled things up ten minutes later, but Saeid Ezatolahi’s goal ruled out by VAR for an offside after he had wheeled away in celebration.

Spain will be playing Morocco in their last group match on June 25th while Iran will be facing unbeaten Portugal on also June 25th to decide who will qualify from this group for the last 16.
