World Bank provides US$ 50million to develop housing for slum dwellers

SANGSAD BHABAN, June 20, 2018 (BSS) – Finance Minister Abul Mal
Abdul Muhith today said the World Bank has provided 50 million US dollars to
help develop standard housing facilities for the lower income people.

“The World Bank has approved US$ 50 million at the ‘Low Income Community
Housing Support Project’ for constructing housing facilities for the slum people,”
said the minister.

The minister said this while replying to a query placed by treasury bench
lawmaker Begum Umme Razia Kazol at the Jatiya Sangsad here.

To this end, a credit agreement has been signed between the World Bank and the
government on June 30 in 2016.

The main objective of the project is to build housing facilities for the poor slum
dwellers at the area under two city corporation, a pourasava and 19 communities ,
he said.

Even the project will help create livelihood development of slum dwellers
through supplying water, electricity, sewerage facilities and construction drains, he
added.
Earlier, the name of the project was “Pro-poor Slums Integration Project.”
