384 more people released from quarantine in Rajshahi division

RAJSHAHI, May 7, 2020 (BSS) – 384 more people were given clearance certificates after expiry of their respective 14-day quarantine period in all eight districts under Rajshahi division in the last 24 hours till 8am today.

With this, the number of total released people stood to 17,957 and 8,415 others remained in home and institutional quarantined in the division at present.

Divisional Director of Health Dr Gopendra Nath Acharya said a total of 26,372 had, so far, been put under home and institutional quarantine since March 10 last to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Meanwhile, a total of 441 new persons have been kept under quarantine as part of the present hectic and relentless efforts of bringing all the suspected people under quarantine in the division over the last 24 hours till this morning.

Among the new ones, 272 have been home-quarantined in Chapainawabgonj, 89 in Naogaon, 40 in Joypurhat, four in Bogura, two in Sirajganj and 34 in Pabna districts.

On the other hand, twenty-two more people were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus in Rajshahi division yesterday, bringing the division’s total number of cases to 175.

A record number of nine people tested positive for COVID-19 in a single day in Chapainawabgonj district Wednesday, raising the district’s total number of coronavirus cases to 11, Dr Gopen Acharya said.

The district-wise break-up of reported COVID-19 patients now stands at 17 in Rajshahi, 11 in Chapainawabganj, 53 in Naogaon, ten in Natore, 38 in Joypurhat, 30 in Bogura, three in Sirajgonj and 13 in Pabna districts.

He said all the reported patients for COVID-19 are undergoing treatment while 208 others in isolation units of different hospitals under institutional supervision and another 154 were released in the division.

Dr Acharya added that utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine as it is being adjudged as an important means of containing the community transmission of the virus.

Following confirmation of Covid-19 cases, the respective houses of the infected persons at different areas in the division were placed on 14-day lockdown.

Dr Gopen said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with COVID-19 patients, were brought to notice and they were asked to remain in home quarantine so that the virus cannot spread further.
