We’ve no reluctance to play Test cricket as some people envisage : Rubel

DHAKA, May 2, 2020 (BSS)-While there is widespread belief that most of the
Bangladeshi pacers are reluctant to play Test cricket, Rubel Hossain differed
with the fact, stating, the allegation is purely based on wrong hypothesis.

He said all of the pacers have been working hard to make them available for
the Test team as they believe the longer version format is the ultimate
cricket and gives the testament of a bowler’s capability.

“I always hear this thing that I and some other pacers are reluctant to
play Test cricket, which hurts me very much,” Rubel told the BSS.

“I never said that I find Test cricket less interesting rather I always
work hard to make me available in Test cricket. Not only me, I found every
pacers serious about Test cricket because we all believe that Test cricket is
the ultimate cricket and how good you are as a bowler, will be judged by your
Test performance,” he added.

Rubel knew that his bad Test performance often forces people to guess about
his reluctance over Test cricket. Amongst the fast bowlers, Rubel has the
worst Test average, which reads 76.77 after taking 36 wickets in 27 matches.
In comparison his ODI and T20 records are envious. The fast bowler claimed
126 wickets in 101 ODI matches at an average of 34.12 while he grabbed 28
wickets in 27 T20 matches at an average of 31.39.

Amongst the bowlers in Bangladesh, he has the most match winning
performance with his bowling in ODI and T20 International matches. The same
thing also happened to Mustafizur Rahman who also won Bangladesh some matches
in ODI and T20 cricket.

“I admit that my Test bowling is not up to the mark. But I tried my level
best, sometimes I bowled well but luck was not with me as I didn’t get
wickets. Since I didn’t get enough wickets, my Test average looked so bad.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t have any interest in Test cricket. I am still
trying to make myself available for the Test cricket despite knowing that the
competition is huge now. But one thing I can say that I won’t give up,” Rubel
said.

“Mustafizur also had to hear this more often now. But I am sure Mustafizur
is trying his level best to make him available in the longer version format.
I know him and he is a guy who won’t give up. The blame on us is
exaggerating,” he concluded.
