Seven more test positive for coronavirus in Rangpur

RANGPUR, April 23, 2020 (BSS) – Seven more people, including two Senior Staff Nurses of Rangpur division were tested positive for coronavirus today at the COVID-19 Laboratory of Rangpur Medical College (RMC).

“After testing 188 samples of suspected patients, seven of them were diagnosed with COVID-19 today,” Chief of the Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnabi Laizu told BSS at 8 pm.

With this, the total number of COVID-19 positive patients rose to 69 in Rangpur division today. The seven new infected patients include three women and four men.

Of them, five infected patients, including three women, are from different areas of Rangpur and one each of Boda upazila in Panchagarh and Roumari upazila of Kurigram district.

The newly infected five patients of Rangpur include two Senior Staff Nurses of Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Kellabond Area of the city and another woman of Carmichael College area in Rangpur city.

“The other two newly infected male patients of Rangpur are from Pirganj and Mithapukur upazilas each,’ Dr Laizu added.

The district-wise break up of detected COVID-19 patients now stands at 15 in Rangpur, 10 in Nilphamari, 13 in Dinajpur, 14 in Gaibandha, seven in Thakurgaon, two in Lalmonirhat, three in Panchagarh and five in Kurigram district.

Dr Laizu mentioned that most of the detected COVID-19 patients of Rangpur division recently returned from Dhaka, Narayanganj and Gazipur and a few of them got infected after coming in contact with other infected patients.

Earlier, a Medical Officer of Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex in Rangpur and another physician of Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex in Nilphamari were tested COVID-19 positive.
