DHAKA, June 18, 2018 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister and Awami League Presidium member Mohammed Nasim today urged BNP leaders not to create confusion over the treatment of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in jail.

“We are very much careful and alert about Khaleda Zia’s treatment . . . But what BNP leaders are telling about her treatment is incorrect,” the minister told journalists after exchanging Eid greetings with officers and employees at his secretariat office.

Noting that Begum Zia is a former Prime Minister, Nasim said, “It is really uncomfortable that she is now in jail. We want to see her out of prison.”

He said the government did not send Begum Zia to jail, the court sentenced her to imprisonment.

The minister said the government is doing everything necessary for her (Khaleda) treatment in jail, but BNP leaders are creating a smokescreen about Khaleda Zia’s treatment.

Nasim, also the spokesman of the AL-led 14-party alliance, also bitterly criticized the role of BNP leaders about their unacceptable demands for Begum Zia’s treatment outside the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and the Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Dhaka.

“CMH is a modern hospital with the optimum opportunities for the patients while the BSMMU is a research-based institution of the doctors,” he added.

The minister said: “We don’t know why BNP doesn’t want to undergo treatment in CMH or BSMMU hospital. All patients are equal to the physicians.”

State Minister for Health Jahed Malek and Health Service Division Secretary Sirajul hauqe Khan were, among others, present.
