President asks police to ensure people’s welfare

DHAKA, April 16, 2020 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked the police force to play an effective role in ensuring the welfare of the country and its people.

The President came up with the directive as new Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed along with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General (DG) Abdullah Al-Mamun jointly paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban here this afternoon.

Welcoming them at the Bangabhaban, the President hoped that each member of the Bangladesh Police would continue playing courageous role in future, President’s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin told BSS.

The head of the state lauded different outstanding activities of the police, including maintaining law and order, combating militancy and terrorism, preventing drug abuse and trafficking in different times, Abedin added.

Terming the police a traditional force, which had immense contribution to the 1971 War of Liberation, the President said police are playing very positive role in maintaining law and order, curbing extremism and ensuring safety and security of lives and property.

The President also highly appreciated Bangladesh police’s ongoing activities coinciding with the mass-awareness campaign to face the fatal Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak by ensuing people’s social distancing throughout the country.

They sought necessary directives and cooperation from the President in discharging their respective tasks.

President Hamid assured them of providing all-out support in discharging their duties.

President’s Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Shamim Uz Zaman, Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin and Secretary (attachment) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were also present there.
