Maleque urges health professionals to work to fight COVID-19

DHAKA, April 7, 2020 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today urged medical professionals to work with more dedication and sincerity to contain the spread of COVID-19 as the whole world is battling against coronavirus pandemic to protect the mankind from the fatal disease.

“We all have to work together to fight COVID-19 as the people of almost all countries in the world have been infected by the deadly virus,” he made the comment while inaugurating the programme through online marking the ‘World Health Day at the Directorate General of Health Service(DGHS) in the city, an official release said.

This year’s theme of the day is “SUPPORT NURSES AND MIDWIVES”, the release added.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of Directorate of Nursing and Midwifery Siddiqa Akter and President of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad Dr Iqbal Arsenal, among others, attended the function with Secretary of Health Services Asadul Islam in the chair.

As part of the precautionary measures, Maleque advised the people to follow social distancing alongside maintaining individual hygienic habits to limit the spread of the COVID-19.

The minister also called upon the people to strictly follow the directives, particularly to ‘stay at home’, given by the organizations concerned to check the spread of the disease.

Referring to the report of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR), the minister said five more coronavirus (Covid-19) patients died in the country overnight, raising the death toll to 17 while 41 more new Covid-19 positive cases were detected during the same period.
