LIUPCP project staffers get personal protective gears in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, April 6, 2020 (BSS) – Livelihoods Improvement of Urban Poor
Communities Project (LIUPCP) has provided its ninety staffers with personal
protective gears to encourage them in serving community people amid
coronavirus situation.

The project staffs including 32 community facilitators, 25 socio economic
nutrition volunteers and 11 community organizers got one apron, four hand
sanitizers, one set gumboot, 30 masks and 50 hand gloves each.

Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has been implementing the LIUPCP with
financial support of DFID, Government of Bangladesh and UNDP for improving
the living and livelihood condition of around 45,000 slum and marginal
households in Rajshahi city.

RCC Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton attended and addressed the gear
distribution ceremony held at the city bhaban conference hall as the chief
guest yesterday.

RCC Executive Engineer and Member Secretary of the project Nur Islam
Tusser, Ward Councilor Towhidul Haque, Chief Community Development Officer
Azizur Rahman and Socio Economic Officer Muhammad Zulfikar also spoke.

Liton called the project staffers as frontline workers, saying protection
of the staffers from being infected with coronavirus is prerequisite for
successful implementation of the project.

He said the city corporation has adopted diversified measures to free the
city areas from the coronavirus pandemic and urged the project workers to
supplement the efforts through their collective initiatives.

Nur Islam Tusser told the meeting that the LIUPC project aims to achieve
long-term sustainable growth by eradicating urban poverty and Sustainable
Development Goals by 2030.

The project has been designed to reach initially the underserved urban
population in the city and to promote livelihoods and living conditions of
2.20 lakh poor people living in the urban areas.
