Cambodian man, British woman win Phnom Penh int’l half marathon

PHNOM PENH, June 17, 2018, (BSS/Xinhua) – A Cambodian man and a British
woman won the eighth Phnom Penh International Half Marathon here on Sunday,
according to the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).

The NOCC results showed that Cambodian Ma Viro crossed the finish line
first with a period of one hour, 16 minutes and 30 seconds in the men’s 21 km
race, while British Hamill Jill triumphed in the women’s race with the time
of one hour, 29 minutes and 3 seconds.

NOCC President and Tourism Minister Thong Khon said some 5,500
professional and amateur athletes, including 519 foreigners from 39 countries
and regions, took part in the event, and most of the foreign runners were
from Japan, China and France.

“This event aims to celebrate the (82nd) birthday of Queen Mother Norodom
Monineath Sihanouk and the proceeds from it will be donated to pediatric
hospital Kantha Bopha,” he said at the opening of the annual event, which was
held in front of the Royal Palace.

Besides, the 21-km race, there were also a 10-km contest and a 3-km fun
run at this charity event.
