Physicians urged to perform duties properly

DHAKA, April 1, 2020 (BSS) – Senior officials of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry today urged the medical professionals, particularly at private sector, to perform duties properly to ensure smooth healthcare services to the people.

In order to supplement the intensive efforts of the government to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country, doctors both at government and private levels should be more dedicated and sincere during the crisis period so that people get necessary treatment, they told a virtual media briefing at Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) here.

Secretary of Health Services Asadul Islam, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Abul Kalam Azad, President of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) Dr Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, President of Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad Dr Iqbal Arsenal and Bangladesh Private Medical Practitioners Association (BPMPA) Dr Jamal Uddin Chowdhury, among others, spoke at the briefing.

Asadul urged the medical professionals to provide healthcare facilities to the people by staying at their respective workplaces during such a critical time.

He also called upon the people to strictly follow the directives, particularly to ‘stay home’ to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Prof Azad said, “We’re expanding testing laboratory facilities to divisional level for rapid confirmation of coronavirus positive. Alongside Dhaka, now samples of suspected cases are being tested in different places.”

Prof Azad said the country has sufficient logistic equipment, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and kits. People should not visit hospitals for testing COVID-19 as skilled health workers in upazila level are collecting samples of suspected coronavirus cases.
