DSCC starts distributing one-month food among 50,000 poor families

DHAKA, March 28, 2020 (BSS) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) today started distributing food items for one month among 50,000 low-income families in the city to mitigate their hardships during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Food distribution among the poor families in the capital has been started aiming to mitigate their sufferings.

I hope this initiative will help those who have become workless due to the current coronavirus outbreak,” DSCC Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon told journalists while inaugurating the food distribution programme at Bahadur Shah Park here.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the public representatives and the administration to stand by the poor people in this coronavirus pandemic, he said.

As per the directive given by the premier, DSCC has decided to provide essential food items for one month to 50,000 families, he added.

Anyone can call at the DSCC’s hotline number to get food items and the ward councilors will help reach those to residences, the outgoing mayor said.

DSCC has opened a control room in this regard. The control room numbers are 01709-900703 and 01709-900704.

The mayor also urged the riche to extend their helping hands to the low-income group people and wage earners.

Khokon said if any citizen of DSCC contacts through the hotline numbers for food, a team comprising ward councilors and regional executive officer will help reach the foods to his or her doorstep.

The mayor was accompanied by DSCC Chief Executive Officer Shah Md Imdadul Haque, Ward Councilor Hasibur Rahman Manik, Secretary Mostafa Kamal Majumder, Regional Executive Officer Udayan Dewan and other senior officials.
