Bangladesh extends flight suspension till April 7
Dhaka, March 28, 2020 (BSS) – Bangladesh today extended the time of ongoing ban on flight operation to April 7 to and from all European countries and the nations restricted the entry of Bangladeshis to their territories over the coronavirus fear.
“The earlier imposed ban on international scheduled passenger flight operation has been extended from March 31 to April 7. The special and scheduled cargo flight operation will remain continue,” read an order issued by Civil Aviation Authority, Bangladesh (CAAB) today.
Besides, the order said the suspension of all domestic flight operations (imposed to an indefinite period) has also been extended till April 7.
Earlier, Bangladesh imposed a ban on traveler’s from all European countries except the UK from March 16 to March 31.
On March 21, the CAAB imposed a ban on commercial flight operation to and from 10 overseas countries – Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Turkey, Malaysia, Oman, Singapore and India – till March 31 midnight to contain the spread of covid-19 in Bangladesh.
These 10 countries also restricted the entry of Bangladeshis to their territories over the coronavirus fear.
Though there is no flight restriction between Bangladesh and the UK, Biman Bangladesh airlines, the loan carrier that operates flight to the UK from Dhaka, on Friday decided to suspend its London and Manchester flights From April 1 to 7.
With this move, the national flag carrier is going to cut off its connectivity to all 17 international destinations as well as domestic routes from April 1 to 7.
The Dhaka-Bang Kong route, which is also out of the CAAB’s ban, was discontinued by all the airlines due to some strict measures imposed by Thailand immigration amid COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently, only three airlines – US-Bangla and China Southern are operating flights between Bangladesh and China while Dragon air between Dhaka and Hong Kong.
