RMCH to be readied to fight coronavirus

RAJSHAHI, Mar 25, 2020 (BSS)- Effective step has been taken to strengthen the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) aimed at combating the coronavirus (COVID- 19) outbreak in the region.

The RMCH’s 30 Number Ward, which is at present accommodating Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), Burn and Plastic Surgery and Neurosurgery, will be prepared within the next two days for treatment of the infected patients.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, RMCH Director Brig Gen Jamilur Rahman and Principal of Rajshahi Medical College Prof Nawshad Ali visited the ward today to see for themselves the progress.

Talking to journalists he said that around 200 patients can be given treatment in the ward simultaneously.

Besides, there are some additional advantages like 16 ICU and eight HDU beds in the ward which will be very much helpful to cope with any emergency situation.

He also said the department of Pharmacy in Rajshahi University has prepared 350 liters of hand sanitizers for the city dwellers.

Brig Gen Jamilur Rahman told the journalists that 490 personal protective equipments, including 370 for RMCH, reached here today.

Meanwhile, a total of 162 new persons have been put under home quarantine in the district totalling the number to 393, informed Dr Enamul Haque, Civil Surgeon of Rajshahi.

He said, a total of 528 persons have so far been taken under home quarantine, of them, 135 were released. However, till 8:00 am on Wednesday, there was no report of any death caused by coronavirus infection in the district.

A total of 115 new persons have been brought under home quarantine in Rajshahi city area totalling the present number to 170 while 121 others were released from the total 291 home quarantined in the metropolis.
