War crimes witness Shumon Zahid’s body recovered in Khilgaon

DHAKA, June 14, 2018 (BSS) – Police today recovered a beheaded body of a war crimes witness and son of a martyred journalist Selina Parvin, from the capital’s Khilgaon area.

“We have recovered the beheaded body of Shuman Zahid, 52, a senior executive officer of Shantinagar branch of Farmers Bank from near the railway tracks in Shahjahanpur Bagicha area in Khilgaon around 11.30 am,” Sub Inspector of Railway Police Anwar Hossain told BSS today.

He said Shuman, who was one of the witnesses in a war crimes case filed relating to the killing of intellectuals during the War of Liberation in December 1971 and a resident of Uttar Shahjahanpur under Khilgaon Police Station, might have been killed in a train mishap.

He, however, did not brush aside the chances of his murder, saying, “Nothing could be said whether he was murdered or not without conducting investigation.”

After conducting postmortem of his body, Sohel Mahbud, chairman of Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College (DMC) told newsmen, “From the type of cut of his body, we suspect Shuman Zahid might have been killed in a train mishap. His head was separated from his body.”

His (Shuman Zahid) viscera and blood have been kept at the DMC for further examination.

Brother-in-law of Shuman claimed that he (Shumon) has been killed and those who used to threaten him might be involved in the killing.

Filing of a case is underway to this end.
