People throng Bangabandhu Bhaban on National Mourning Day

DHAKA, Aug 15, 2017 (BSS) – People of the capital and its adjacent areas today paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his 42nd martyrdom anniversary and National Mourning Day at Bangabandhu Bhaban.

The day was observed with a fresh vow to materializing the dream of Father of the Nation to build a “Sonar Bangla” and to bring back the fugitive convicted killers of Bangabandhu to execute verdict of the murder case.

Apart from Awami League, its front and associate bodies, different political parties, socio-cultural organizations, trade unions, professional organizations and district administration organised separate programmes of the day.

Leaders and workers of AL and its front organisations and professional bodies wear black badges.

Black flags were dominated the skyline of the city and the national flag was hoisted half-mast atop the government and private buildings while mourners placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Discussion, Qurankhwani, Milad Mahfil, voluntary blood donation and distribution of foods among the destitute were other programmes to mark the day.

Marking the day, Islamic Foundation organized a discussion at the auditorium of Baitul Mukarram. AL Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif addressed the function as the chief guest with foundation Director General Shamim Mohammad Afzal in the chair.

Secretary of the Religious Ministry Md Abdul Jalil and Governor of Islamic Foundation Board Mishbahur Rahman, among others, were also addressed the discussion.

Earlier, the Islamic Foundation organized Qurankhwani, Milad and Doa Mahfil at Banani graveyard at 9 am and at Baitul Mukarram at 10 am for the eternal peace of the departed souls.

Technical and Madrasha Division of Education Ministry organized a discussion at the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDE,B) auditorium.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Technical and Madrasha Division Secretary Md Alamgir in the chair.

Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division Secretary Md Soharab Hossain, IDE,B President AKMA Hamid, Additional Secretary FM Enamul Haque and Directorate of Technical Education Director General Ashok Kumar Biswas, among others, also spoke.

Marking the National Mourning Day, Shipping Ministry organized a discussion at Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Bhaban.

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan addressed it as the chief guest with Secretary of the ministry Ashok Madhab Roy in the chair.

BIWTA Chairman Commodore M Mozammel Haque, BIWTC Chairman Engineer Dr Gyan Ranjan Shil and Bangladesh Land Port Authority Chairman Tapan Kumar Chakkrabarti, among others, were present. Later, a doa mahfil was held.

Ministry of Defence organized different programmes including discussion and screening of film on the life and works of Bangabandhu. Later, a special doa mahfil was held.

Secretary of the ministry Akthar Hossain Bhuyian chaired the meeting held at the auditorium of the Ministry of Defence.

Keraniganj Upazila Parishad organized a meeting at its auditorium. Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam addressed the meeting as the chief guest with Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shahe Elahi Mainul Amin in the chair.

Upazila Awami League Convenor and Upazila Chairman Shahin Ahmed, Freedom Fighter Md Shahjahan, AL leaders Altaf Hossain Biplob and Advocate Enamul Haque, among others, also spoke.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs observed the 42nd Death Anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Mourning Day with due solemnity.

High officials and employees of the Foreign Ministry led by Foreign Secretary Md. Shahidul Haque paid rich tributes by placing floral wreath on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Later, a milad mahfil was held and a special Munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the great soul of Father of the Nation and his martyred family members and for continued peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Marking the day, Dhaka University (DU) organized different programmes including discussion, photo exhibition and art competition for children.

The discussion was held at the TSC auditorium. DU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique addressed the discussion as the chief guest.

Pro-VC (admin) Professor Dr Md Aktaruzzaman, Treasurer Professor Dr Md Kamal Uddin, DU Teachers Association President Professor Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, General Secretary Professor Dr Md Rahmat Ullha and Officers Association President AKM Amir Hossain, among others, spoke. Acting Register Md Enamuzzaman conducted it.

Besides, Bangla Academy, Anti Corruption Commission and Border Guard Bangladesh organized separate discussion marking the day.
