Home-goers heave sigh of relief on highways

DHAKA, June 14, 2018 (BSS) – The homebound people are heaving a sigh of relief as they are facing almost no traffic congestion on highways which makes their journey smoother ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Fitr.

Because of the government’s different measures, the home-goers are not facing gridlock on highways or schedule collapse on railways.

Most of the home-goers are leaving capital Dhaka by roads, railways and waterways. Some people also choose airways to go home.

Bus terminals, launch ghats and railway stations in Dhaka city are witnessing huge crowds on the last working day today ahead of Eid. Though there are pressure of passengers and vehicles on highways, but home-goers face lesser traffic jam.

While talking to newsmen at Mainamati on Comilla-Brahmanbaria highways, Roads Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said homebound people are not facing any trouble on highways and roads and there is no traffic congestion. People are smoothly reaching home in due time, he added.

Assistant Inspector General (AIG media) of Police Headquarters Saheli Ferdous told BSS that because of stringent surveillance of law enforcers including police and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), the home-goers are not facing sufferings on highways.

There were almost no activities of dope gangs, snatchers, brokers, frauds on highways, the AIG said.

Railway stations also witnessed a huge crowd today.

Bangladesh Railway Additional Director General Md Miajahan told BSS today that trains on all routes, apart from Rajshahi, Rangpur and Lalmonirhat, left Dhaka on scheduled time.

Kamalapur Station witnessed heavy crowds today as compared to previous few days as service holders are leaving for home after completing their office works on the last working day, he said.

Sadarghat launch terminal also witnessed a huge crowd today. Rush of home-bound people were seen from Gulisthan to Sadarghat area. Identical scenarios were seen at Shimulia and Mawa ghats.

Most of the people are crossing rivers by launches. Massive security measures have been taken at waterways. Dhaka Metropolitan Police, River Police, coastguards and RAB are providing all-out security.
