Glowing tributes paid to Bangabandhu on birth centenary

DHAKA, March 17, 2020(BSS) – People of all walks of life today thronged Dhanmondi-32 to pay glowing tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his birth centenary.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to Bangabandhu by placing a wreath at his portrait in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi on the occasion of birth centenary of the great leader.

Bangabandhu’s younger daughter Sheikh Rehana and granddaughter Saima Wazed Hossain accompanied the premier.

After laying the wreath, she stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memory of the greatest Bangalee of all times.

Later, flanked by AL central leaders, Sheikh Hasina laid another wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on behalf of her party as the president of Bangladesh Awami League.

AL Advisory Council members Amir Hossain Amu, Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozemmel Haque and Mirza Azam, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua were present on the occasion, among others.

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also paid homage to Bangabandhu.

Later, the leaders of AL associate bodies and socio-cultural organisations placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Dhaka City south and north units of AL, Awami Jubo League, Jatiya Sramik League, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Awami Swechchhasebak League, Mahila Awami League, Jubo Mahila League, Bangladesh Krishak League, Tanti League and Matsyajibi League paid glowing tributes to Bangabandhu.

Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Bangabandhu Parishad, Muktijoddha Foundation, Bangabandhu Ain Parishad and Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (SWACHIP) also paid homage.

The day was also celebrated across the country as the National Children’s Day.

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of the independent Bangladesh, was born on March 17 in 1920 in a respected family at Tungipara in Gopalganj on this day.
