Bangabandhu’s birth centenary celebrated in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 17, 2020 (BSS) – The birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Children’s Day-2020 was
celebrated here today in a befitting manner amid huge enthusiasm and festivity.

The district administration, Awami League (AL), Rangpur City Corporation,
Rangpur Cantonment, educational institutions and other organisations
celebrated the birth centenary of Bangabandhu as per the revised programmes.

The 100th birth anniversary celebration began with 31 gun salutes after the
sunrise followed by hoisting of the national flag at all government, semi-
government and private buildings in the city.

Member of the Parliament (Rangpur-3 constituency) Rahgir Almahi Saad
Ershad, Divisional Commissioner KM Tarikul Islam, Deputy Inspector General of
police, Rangpur Range Devdas Bhattacharya, Rangpur Metropolitan Police
Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa,
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Superintendent of police Biplob Kumar
Sarkar, District Council Chairman Advocate Chhafia Khanom, freedom fighters,
heads of different departments and institutions placed wreaths at the mural
of Bangabandhu at 8:30 am followed by a guard of honour by a smart contingent
of police .

President of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General
Secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu, President of city AL Shafiur Rahman
Shafi and its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, President of district
Mohila AL Mortuza Begum and its General Secretary Advocate Zakia Sultana
Choite, President of district Chhatra League Mehede Hasan Rony and its
General Secretary Rakibul Hasan Kanon and other leaders of AL and its
associate bodies placed wreaths there .

The district administration screened a documentary film on “Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangladesh’ at Circuit House.

After the Johr prayers, Doa, milad mehfils and special prayers were also
offered at mosques, temples, churches and other places of worships seeking
eternal peace for departed soul of Bangabandhu and continuous peace and
prosperity of the nation.

Improved diets and sweets were served to inmates of different hospitals,
orphanages, Government Shishu Paribars, Rangpur Central Jail, vagabond and
children centres.

The District Information Office played the historic March 7th speech of
Bangabandhu and screened documentaries on Bangabandhu.

The educational institutions planted 100 tree saplings on their respective
campuses as per the revised programmes.

The district and city units of AL and its associate bodies began
celebrations of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu with lighting candles at
one-minute past midnight at district AL office and in front of the mural of
Bangabandhu in the city.

Later, the leaders of AL and its associate bodies hoisted the national and
party flags at 6:30 am at the offices of the district and city AL followed by
placing of wreaths at the portrait and mural of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu
Square.

AL and its associate bodies arranged doa mahfils and offered prayers at
mosques, temples, churches and pagodas, played the 7th March historic speech
of Bangabandhu and artists of Joy Bangla Sangskritik Jyote rendered patriotic
songs.

Besides, leaders of the district and city units of AL and its associate
bodies served improved diets to inmates of Uttam Baroghoria Orphanage and Abu
Huraira Orphanage in the city.
