Hasan continues teaching despite busy schedule
DHAKA, March 12, 2020 (BSS) – Noted environmentalist and Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud is continuing his teaching at the Dhaka University (DU) in spite of leading a very busy political career as well as discharging state responsibilities.
He has been working as a part-time teacher at Department of Oceanography of the DU since August, 2019.
Hasan, a PhD in Environmental Chemistry, Limburg University of Belgium, is supervising ‘Evolution and Earth’s Biosphere’ course for honors final year students of the Oceanography Department while he is also supervising another course ‘Global Climate Change’ in the same department.
Hasan, also Awami League Joint General Secretary, earned repute as a part-time teacher (Environmental Science and Bangladesh Studies) at Jahangirnagar University (JU), East-West University and North-South University.
At the request of JU teachers and students following his class at the university as a guest teacher, he joined the Environment Science Department as a part-time teacher in 2018.
He served as visiting fellow and Academic Board Member, European Institute for Strategic Studies, Brussels, Belgium.
Hasan received masters degree in three disciplines –Human Ecology (Environmental Science) from Bridge University of Brussels, Belgium, 1996, International Politics from University of Libha-de-Brussels, 1996 and Inorganic Chemistry from Chattogram University, 1989.
He did his bachelor degree from Department of Chemistry of Chattogram University in 1987.
He delivered special lectures on ‘Global Climate Change- Issue and Our Responsibilities’ at Cornell University, New York, USA in August, 2011, on ‘Global Climate Change Issues- How to avert the situations’ Harvard University, Boston, USA in 2012 and on ‘Climate change and its Impact on global environment and economic development- Special focus on Bangladesh’ at Melbourne University, Melbourne in March, 2014.
Currently, Dr Hasan is regarded as a noted environmentalist at home and abroad. He served as the Environment Affairs Secretary of Awami League for over a decade.
Later, he successfully served as environment minister, state minister for foreign affairs and chairman of parliamentary standing committee on ministry of environment and forests.
He was elected a member of parliament (MP) by a huge margin in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad elections. Now he is serving as the information minister, joint general secretary of AL and one of the spokespersons of the party.
Earlier, he was Publicity and Publications Secretary of AL for seven years.
