Govt. issues revised list of Independence Award 2020 recipients

DHAKA, March 12, 2020 (BSS) – The government today issued a fresh list of
eight noted personalities and one institution as recipients of Independence
Award-2020, revising a previous one published last month.

According to a cabinet division announcement the government this year
decided to award nine recipients with the award “in recognition to their
glorious and outstanding contributions at the national level” while the
previous list contained names of 10 recipients.

Four of the recipients are to be given the award for their contribution to
the national Independence and Liberation War and they are Golam Dastagir
Gazi, MP, navy commander Abdur Rouf (posthumous), martyred intellectual Md
Anwar Pasha (posthumous) and Azizur Rahman.

Two are to be conferred with the award for their contribution to the
medical science while they are Professor Dr Md Obaidul Kabir Chowdhury and
Professor Dr AKMA Muqtadir.

Bharateswari Homes was named for the award for its achievements in
education sector.

The rest two were named for the honour for their stake in the cultural
arena and they are Kalipada Das and Ferdousi Mazumder.

The cabinet division statement said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is
expected to handover the award to the recipients at a function at Shapla Hall
of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) here on March 25.
