Eid holidaymakers start leaving capital

DHAKA, June 13, 2018 (BSS) – With about three days left to Eid-ul-Fitr, the city dwellers started leaving capital to enjoy their Eid holidays with their family members and near and dear ones.

Witnesses said Eid holidaymakers were seen to wait at Gabtoli, Sayedabad and Mohakhali bus terminals, Kamlapur railway station, Sadarghat launch terminals for their expected transports and water vessels.

Today was the holiday of Lailatul Qadr while the three-day Eid-ul-Fitr holidays (depends on moon sighting) will start from June 15.

Many bus counters and terminals witnessed a rush. Buses of almost all counters, trains and launches left respective venues in Dhaka for their scheduled places with the home-bound people timely, according to reports reached here from different parts of the city.

Meanwhile, the vigilance and monitoring teams of the government to oversee the situation to ensure smooth Eid journey remain active at all stations and terminals.

Visiting the Kamlapur train station, it was found that all the passenger trains from Kamalapur Railway Station here maintained timetables till this evening.

Railway Minister Mujibul Haque visited the rail station this afternoon and exchanged views with the home-bound passengers of Rajshahi-bound Slikcity and Chattogram-bound Subarna Express trains.

“We are trying our level best to provide best service to the passengers . . . all necessary measures have been taken to ensure smooth journey of the home-bound people,” the minister said.

Railway Secretary Mohammad Mofazzel Hossain, Managing Director of Bangladesh Railways M Amzad Hossain and senior officials accompanied the minister.
