No industrialization on arable land: Dipu Moni

DHAKA, March 11, 2020 (BSS) – Underscoring the need for protecting agricultural land for the sake of the country’s farmers, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said arable land should not be allowed for building industrial establishments.

“The main problem for the agriculture is that big industrial establishments and factories are being built on arable land, resulting reduction of agricultural land,” she told quoting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The minister was addressing a reception accorded to Ekushey Award-2020 winner agricultural economists at Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council (BARC) auditorium in the city’s Farmgate area.

Bangladesh Agricultural Economists Association (BAEA) organized the function with its President Sajjadul Hasan in the chair, while former Bangladesh Bank Governor Professor Dr Atiur Rahman spoke it as special guest.

Dipu Moni said, “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had thought that the farmers are the country’s main driving force. Improvement of the farmers will accelerate the country’s development.”

She said the country’s agriculture sector has witnessed huge development over the years, making the country self-sufficient in food.
