Bangabandhu worked for women-empowerment: Speaker

DHAKA, March 08, 2020 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury here today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had worked for women’s rights and their economic empowerment.

“After the independence, Bangabandhu gifted a constitution to the nation through which he established the women’s rights and their economic empowerment,” she told a seminar titled ‘Bangabandhu for Women’s Development’ held at Jatiya Press Club (JPC).

She urged all men and women to come together for reducing gender inequality to show more respect towards women.

The Speaker handed over a memento to famous novelist Selina Hossain on behalf of the JPC.

With JPC Senior Vice-President Omar Faruk in the chair, the seminar was conducted by its member Shahnaz Begum.

The programme was also addressed, among others, by poets Helal Hafeez, Zaheer Al Amin and Nasimun Ara Haque Minu.

JPC leaders and its members, senior journalists, media personalities and officials of the Parliament Secretariat were present on the occasion.

JPC General Secretary Farida Yasmin delivered the keynote paper at the event.
