Int’l Women’s Day observed at JU

SAVAR, March 8, 2020 (BSS) – International Women’s Day- 2020 was celebrated at Jahangirnagar University (JU) campus in a befitting manner today.

To mark the day, a colorful rally led by JU Pro-VC (Admin) Professor Dr.
Md. Amir Hossain was brought out from the Business faculty premises this
morning.

The rally after parading different parts of campus ended at Zahir Raihan
auditorium premises which was followed by a discussion meeting held at the
seminar room of the auditorium.

JU Pro-VC Professor Dr. Md. Amir Hossain addressed it as chief guest while
member of Bangladesh Awami League central executive committee, Marufa Akter
Poppy was chief speaker.

Addressing the discussion, Prof. Amir said development of a nation is not
possible without the contribution of women.

“Equality of men and women cannot be achieved even by law and it will only
be possible through positive change of mindset, ethics and values,’ he said

Marufa Akter Poppy said, present government has taken effective steps to
empower women and they are performing their responsibilities in almost all
national level with utmost honesty and efficiency.

Presided over by the dean of Social Science faculty Professor Dr. Rasheda
Akhter, JU Pro-VC (Education) Professor Dr. Md. Nurul Alam, Treasurer,
Professor Sheikh Md. Monzurul Haque, Director of Students Welfare and
Counseling Center Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury were present as
special guests .

Later, a cultural function highlighting women’s rights and progress was
held at Jahir Raihan auditorium which was largely attended by the students ,
teachers and employees of the university .
