Historic 7 March observed at JU

SAVAR, March 7, 2020 (BSS) – The historic 7 March, a memorable day in the
history of Bangalis’ long struggle for freedom was observed at Jahangirnagar
University (JU) campus on Saturday amid widespread enthusiasm and in a
befitting manner.

On this day in 1971, Bangabandhu, the undisputed leader of Bangalis, had
delivered his epoch-making speech of independence before a mammoth rally at
the historic Race Course Maidan, now Suhrawardy Udyan, in Dhaka city.

On October 30 in 2017, the UNESCO recognised the historic 7 March speech
by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a world documentary heritage.

Marking the day, Teachers-Students Centre of Jahangirnagar University
displayed a documentary on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman and his historic speech around 6 pm on central cafeteria premises in
the campus.

The documentary highlighted various aspects of Bangabandhu’s life.

JU Pro- VC Professor Dr. Nurul Alam inaugurated the programme while
treasurer of the university Professor Sheikh Md. Monzurul Huq, acting
registrar Rahima Kaneez, director of TSC Professor Md. Alamgir Kabir,
Professor Sohel Ahmed of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology department and
Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Sayadur Rahman of Public Administration
department were present, among others.

Earlier, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League of
Jahangirnagar University unit placed floral wreath at the ‘Portrait of
Bangabandhu’ adjoining JU Bangbandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall at about 12
pm.
