2 drug traders killed in Mymensingh gunfight

MYMENSINGH, June 12, 2018 (BSS) – Two alleged drug traders were killed in a
‘gunfight’ with police in Kalibari area of Mymensingh town early today.

The deceased were identified as Mohammad Rony, 30, son of Md Mamun Mia of
Krishtapur area and Anwar Hossain Anar, 38, son of late Siraj Ali of Akua
Wireless area of Mymensingh town.

On information that a group of drug peddlers have been trading drugs at an
abandoned place of Kalibari area, a team of police raided the area around
1.45am today, said Md Ashikur Rahman, officer-in-charge of detective branch
(DB) of police, Mymensingh.

When the police team reached the spot, the drug traders started throwing
brick bats at the police and at one stage they opened fire on them, prompting
them to retaliate that triggered the “gunfight”, said the OC, who led the
drive.

After the gunfight, police searched the area and found two drug traders
with bullet wounds and in critical condition, said the OC.

They were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), where the
duty doctors declared them dead, the OC informed.

DB sources said, two DB policemen – Sub-inspector Porimol Chandra Das and
constable Shamim were injured during the gunfight and are being treated at
MMCH.

Police said they have recovered 1,750 pieces of yaba, three used bullets
and revolver from the spot.
