Rangpur region completes 93pc Boro transplantation

RANGPUR, March 4, 2020 (BSS) – The farmers have completed transplantation
of Boro rice seedlings on 93.34 percent of targeted land area in all five
districts of Rangpur agriculture region where the transplantation process is
nearing completion.

Talking to BSS, officials of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE)
said farmers have already transplanted Boro rice seedling on about 4.70-lakh
hectares of land, 93.34 percent of the targeted 5.03-lakh hectares of land,
in the region.

“We are expecting to achieve the fixed farming target transplantation of
Boro rice as transplantation of seedlings will continue till March 15 next,”
said Deputy Director of the DAE at its regional office Agriculturist Md.
Moniruzzaman. The DAE has fixed a target of producing over 21.76-lakh tonnes
of clean Boro rice (32.64-lakh tonnes of paddy) from 5.03-lakh hectares of
land for all five districts of Rangpur agriculture region this season.

The farmers have prepared Boro rice seedbeds on 27,675 hectares of land
exceeding the fixed target on 23,201 hectares of land by 4,474 hectares of
land in the region,” he said, adding that farmers are not facing any crisis
of Boro rice seedlings.

The DAE with other agriculture-related organisations are working in a
well-coordinated manner to ensure smooth irrigation, supply of fuels,
fertilisers and electricity and other facilities to farmers to make the
intensive Boro rice farming programme successful.

“The tender Boro rice plants are growing superbly now amid excellent and
sunny climatic conditions giving an eye-catching look to the crop fields in
all five districts of the region,” he said.

“The farmers have already put over 2.05 lakh irrigation pumps, including
power and diesel driven 2,658 deep tube wells, 2.02-lakh shallow tube wells,
503 low lift pumps and 403 other pumps into operation for irrigating the Boro
rice fields in the region,” he said.

The DAE has fixed a target of bringing 93,982 hectares of land under Boro
rice farming adopting the Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) irrigation
technology to enhance Boro rice yield at lower costs and reducing lifting of
underground water this season.

Talking to BSS, farmer Ariful Haque of village Najirdigar in Rangpur said
the tender plants of Boro rice on five acres of land are growing excellent
now as he completed transplantation of seedlings by February 20 last.

Similarly, farmers Bahar Uddin, Mokhlesur Rahman, Harun Ar Rashid, Dulal
Chandra, Abdul Hye and Abdus Salam of different villages here said they have
completed transplantation of Boro rice seedling on their crop lands last
month.

Additional Director of the DAE for Rangpur region Agriculturist Muhammad
Ali hoped that the fixed farming target of Boro rice will be achieved this
season as farmers are continuing transplantation of Boro rice seedlings in
the region.
