BCB announces Tk 2cr cash reward for Tigresses

DHAKA, June 12, 2018 (BSS) -The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced cash reward of Taka two crore for victorious Bangladesh women’s cricket team for their historic victory over India in the just concluded ACC Asia Cup Women’s Twenty20 final.

The Tigresses clinched their maiden Asia Cup title beating six-times champions India by three wickets on Sunday’s final in Kuala Lumpur.

“Each player will get Taka 10 lakh as a cash reward,” BCB media committee’s chairman Jalal Yunus told BSS today. The remaining amount will be distributed among the players according to their performance, who did extraordinary well in the tournament, coaching and management staffs, he added.

The BCB also are pondering over to review the salary and match fees of central contracted women players. “There is a working committee’s meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) and we’ll review to increase their salary and match fee in the meeting,” Yunus added.”

Younus said currently the women’s cricketers earn Taka 30,000, Taka 20,000 and Taka 10,000 as match fee as per the category.

Bangladesh became the first team ever to beat giant India in the group phase of the tournament before repeating the feat in the nail-biting final.

Meanwhile, a video of the male cricketers celebrating in the dressing room at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, after bowler Jahanara Alam hit the winning run, went viral on social media.

Jahanara scored the crucial two runs off the final ball to take Bangladesh to 113-7 after Bangladesh restricted India to 112-9.
