Overseas employment minister for eliminating dishonest middlemen

DHAKA, June 12, 2018 (BSS) – Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc today said the dishonest middlemen who cheat and harass overseas workers must face legal actions.

“Please eliminate the dishonest middlemen in the migration sector after identifying them. They must face trial – whoever they are,” the minister said, addressing a function marking the signing of Annual Performance Agreement (APA) and screening of an awareness documentary on safe migration at the ministry office here.

The workers go abroad with a dream of changing their fates, but due to lack of skills and language proficiency, some of them are cheated by dishonest middlemen as they do not even read the agreement latter.

Under the supervision of the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry, the documentary has been made to aware the people intending to go abroad with overseas jobs, he said.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Secretary Nomita Halder presided over the function that was addressed by Wage Earners’ Welfare Board (WEWB) Director General (DG) Gazi Mohammad Julhash, Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) DG Md Selim Reza, Bangladesh Overseas Employment and Services Limited (BOESL) Managing Director Maran Kumar Chakraborty and documentary maker Hasan Ahmed Chowdhury, among others.

Additional Secretary of the ministry (administration and finance) Md Aminul Islam delivered the welcome addressed in the function.
