NEW DELHI, Aug. 11, 2017 (BSS/XINHUA) – At least five people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh Friday, police said.

“The accident occurred this morning when two private passenger buses collided head-on near Pathauli in the state’s Agra town,” a senior police official said.

While five bodies were pulled out of one of the buses that was carrying a large number of passengers, those injured have been admitted to a local hospital, he said.

One bus came from Bidhuna in Uttar Pradesh and the other came from the neighboring state of Rajasthan in the west.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, the official said.

“The driver of both the buses fled the spot after the accident and efforts are on to nab them,” he added.

India has the highest number of road fatalities in the world. Road accidents occur often due to poor driving or badly maintained roads and vehicles.
