Boosting modern livestock services stressed

RAJSHAHI, Feb 27, 2020 (BSS)- Livestock experts at a discussion here today unanimously called for boosting the livestock sector through best uses of modern services and technologies to meet up the protein deficiency.

They observed that the contribution of the livestock sector is immense in
terms of meeting up protein deficiency and socio-economic development so
there is no alternative to elevate the sector.

They came up with the observation while addressing the closing cum
certificate-giving ceremony of a 15-day long training for women livestock
service providers at Narkelbaria campus in Rajshahi University (RU).

Some 25 women from different areas including Khulna, Jashore , Satkhira,
Faridpur and Barisal took part in the training on rearing of domestic animals
and their primary treatment.

Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (DVAS) in RU organized the
training in association with Feed the Future Bangladesh and Livestock
Production for Improved Nutrition with the main thrust of making women self-
reliant besides boosting the supply of animal protein through development of
livestock.

RU Chief Engineer Abul Kalam Azad addressed the meeting as chief guest
while Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder, Prof Syed Sarwar Jahan, Prof Akhterual Islam
and Dr Hemayetul Islam from DVAS spoke as special guests with Chairman of the
department Prof SM Kamruzzaman in the chair.

Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder said livestock sector could be developed through
the best use of existing natural resources and modern technologies.

He added that necessary information and updated knowledge should be reached
to the growers and all concerned should come forward for flourishing the
poultry sector as the present government is committed to promote the sector
substantially.

Engineer Abul Kalam Azad called for giving due importance to adopting
modern technology, promotion of high yielding varieties and farmers training
to meet the gradually mounting demands of poultry birds and eggs.
