DHAKA, Feb 19, 2020 (BSS) – Tanzid Hasan Tamim carried his ICC Under-19 World Cup performance by hitting a fluent century as the two-day practice game between BCB XI and visiting Zimbabwe ended in a draw at BKSP today.
Alongside Tanzid, skipper Al-Amin Hossain also struck a century to help
BCB XI reach 288-5 before the bails were drawn for the final day.
Tanzid smashed 14 fours and five sixes in his epic 99 ball-125 not out
while Al-Amin was also unbeaten on 100 off 145, sending the ball across the
rope for 16 times.
They came together in the crease at a moment when Zimbabwe bowlers came
all guns blazing to leave BCB XI a tittering 69-5 in just 24.2 overs. The duo
resisted the pumped-up Zimbabwe bowlers in astute fashion before going
berserk to leave them at bay.
In the process, they combined for a 219 runs for an unbroken sixth wicket
stand, forcing Zimbabwe to call it a day for the final time.
When Tanzid was at his ruthless best, his other colleagues in the Under-19
team, however, fared not so good. Opener Parvez Hossain Emon, who played the
Under-19 World Cup final against India through enormous pain to help the side
clinch the title alongside skipper Akbar Ali, got the start but couldn’t just
carry on.
Emon was dismissed on 34, after playing 66 balls in which he hit four
fours and one six. Another Under-19 star Mahmudul Hasan Joy who struck a
century in the semifinal game could make just 1, while Shahadat Hossain
scored 2. Under-19 skipper Akbar Ali too failed to shine in with willow as he
scored just 1.
Earlier, Zimbabwe didn’t come to bat on final and day two as they declared
their innings with overnight 291-7, in a bid to give their bowlers a chance
to do some practice ahead of the one-off Test against Bangladesh.
Ainsley Ndlovu was the most successful bowler for Zimbabwe with 2-51 while
Tinotenda Mutumbodzi, Carl Mumba and Charlton Tshuma picked up one wicket
apiece.
The solitary Test between the two sides will commence from February 22 at
the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
