Unprecedented growth of media during Sheikh Hasina govt: Hasan
SANGSAD BHABAN, Feb 18, 2020 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud
today said an unprecedented growth of mass media took place in the last
consecutive 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The government has formulated the National Broadcast Policy 2014, National
Online Mass Media Policy 2017, Establishment and Operation of FM Radio Centre
under Private Ownership Policy, 2010 and Community Radio Installation,
Broadcast and Operation Policy 2017 to ensure free flow of information and
freedom of the mass media, he said.
The information minister made the statement while replying to starred
question made by treasury bench lawmaker Md Nazrul Islam Babu, which was
tabled in the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
“The mass media are now working independently following the aforesaid
policies. It has been possible only for that the present government believes
in free flow of information,” Hasan said.
Besides, the free flow of information is also being ensured through the
emergence of different mass media, including internet based news portals,
news blogs, IPTVs (Internet Protocol televisions) and internet based radios,
he added.
